This is an incredible difficult and unprecedented time for everybody. As a school we have closed in line with government guidance. The closure is in place to try and reduce the transmission of the virus and therefore help the NHS to manage and reduce the number of deaths. It is vital that we do our bit and follow this guidance. The core principle is that “if at all possible children should remain at home”. The exceptions for this are key workers where children cannot stay at home and EHCP/vulnerable children. We have had a few requests for videos of how to use the online learning and submit work. Check out Getting Started

Frequently Asked Questions

Closure (5)

The government has told us to close to try and reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
The government’s guidance is clear. If a child can stay at home the should do so. We have followed the government’s guidance and risk assessed students with an EHCP and have concluded that all of our children’s needs can safely be met at home. As it is our view that all of our children and young people needs can be met at home, as none of our children receive personal care at school. We have spoken to the majority of parents who have been fully supportive. Please do contact sen@hartsdown.org if you want advice or support in supporting your child at home.
The government has not told us but it may be an extended period
We will be isolating them as far as possible. They will complete the same work that students at home are completing. We are not in a position to teach them and will be only be offering supervision.

Information About the Coronavirus (5)

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses which may cause illness in animals or humans. In humans, several coronaviruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The most recently discovered coronavirus causes coronavirus disease COVID-19.
COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.
For most people the symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment. Around 1 out of every 6 people who gets COVID-19 becomes seriously ill and develops difficulty breathing. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness. People with fever, cough and difficulty breathing should seek medical attention.

During this time of uncertainty, I wanted to reassure you that any SEN student is still receiving the interventions that they would have been had we been in school and that the SEN team are available at any time for any questions or concerns that you may have  sen@hartsdown.org or claysonm@hartsdown.org. All interventions have been set up virtually and are links are available on class charts and the SEN support drive.  The Ta who is running the intervention has called home or emailed the parents/carers and students to explain the task and how to complete it.  Every week new tasks are uploaded and they are marked weekly. All essential meetings are still being carried out on a virtual basis rather than face to face.  We have also added a lot of information for parents/ carers and students on the school drive which include resources and links to other websites that may be of interest. If you have any further questions then please do not hesitate to contact me Mrs Michelle Clayson, claysonm@hartsdown.org or at the SEN address above.  I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have at this unprecedented time. Mrs Michelle Clayson SENCO
